Smart home: how tech can make your home life easier

If you are lucky enough to have bagged a great Black Friday deal on home assistant, or received one as a holiday gift, then you may have taken the first step towards a smart home. OK, so you already think that you and your family are pretty intelligent, but the kind of smart home we’re talking about here is one which you can control using a pen electronic home assistant or your phone.

So, if you have an Amazon Echo or Google Assistant and spend most of the time asking it what the weather is going to be like or to play some 90s music, then you are barely scratching the surface of its capabilities.

Did you know you can use your smart home assistant to control lights and power socket and even control the temperature of your home? Of course, you’ll need additional hardware for some of this, for example to control lighting you’ll need smart light bulbs such as the Philips Hue range. Controlling light switches and power sockets will require smart plugs and smart sockets which can be hooked up to your home assistant or phone via the internet.

A smart thermostats can control the temperature in your home, even when you’re not there. Once you have it connected to your phone, you’ll be able get your house warmed up for when you get home on a cold winter’s day. Or maybe it’s a sweltering hot summer’s day and you want the air con going full blast when you get home.
