Using Tech to Improve Mental Health

Slowly but surely the world is starting to realize that mental health is every bit as important as physical health. Here are three ways in which technology can be beneficial to mental health.

Blue light blockers. Much of our time these days is spent in front of screens, but the blue light emanating from those screens can disrupt our sleep cycles, which has a negative effect on mental health. Blue light blocking apps, available on most devices, can help reduce those effects and lead to better sleep, which ultimately leads to better moods and better concentration.

Fitness trackers. Exercise is an important part of physical health, but it’s also an important part of mental health. Exercise releases endorphins, which not only help improve mood but help improve concentration as well. Fitness trackers are excellent motivational tools designed to take charge of and keep track of our exercise routines, which ultimately leads to physical and mental health benefits.

Online therapy. A big part of mental health is having someone to talk to when needed. That said, therapy can be costly, and often inconvenient if there are no professional therapists who are both nearby and available. Enter video chat technology, which can connect us to therapists around the world, often at considerably less cost than seeing a therapist in person, be it through Skype or a dedicated app.
